The developers of Magnolia Park Town Center
say they are poised to break ground on four buildings along
Woodruff Road — nearly 45,000 square feet of retail
space — and they named tenants for two of the buildings.
Marc Yavinsky, executive vice president
with Menin Development Inc. of Palm Beach, Fla., which
plans Magnolia Park at the former Greenville Mall site,
said a Cheddar's Casual Café will go in one of the
buildings and a La Parrilla Mexican restaurant in another.
The restaurants would front
Woodruff Road on either side of the main entrance to Magnolia
Park, between the Rooms to Go furniture store and McDonald's.
The locations will be the first in South Carolina for both
chains, Yavinsky said.
He didn't name any tenants
for two other buildings near the Magnolia Park entrance
that Menin is seeking approval to build from Greenville's
Planning Commission.
“We have other tenants
that we are negotiating leases with, negotiating deals
with, at various stages, that we'll continue to announce
as we're able to announce them,” Yavinsky said.
He said Menin also plans
to extend an interior road from the Costco Wholesale store
at Magnolia Park to the Regal Hollywood 20 movie theater.
Menin announced plans for
Magnolia Park after buying the former Greenville Mall in
2007. So far, however, Menin's plan for a big, mixed-use
development, with high-end shopping and a hotel or two,
hasn't materialized.
Jean Pool, planning and
development manager for the city of Greenville, chalks
it up to the economy.
“We're just glad
to see activity there,” she said.
